This is the next phase of redevelopment of the VGH campus. The Joe & Rosalie Segal Family Centre will consolidate multiple existing mental health services and programs that are currently distributed over several buildings at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital. Designed by dys architecture, the eight storey acute care facility will have 100 in-patient beds as well as outpatient facilities. The building materials are described as high quality metal cladding, exterior grade wood veneer paneling and glass.
The building is the latest proposal to renew the VGH campus, and will sit behind the Blusson Pavilion (with the spiral wheelchair ramp) and close to the recently renovated Willow Pavilion. British Columbia philanthropists Joseph and Rosalie Segal have made a lead gift of $12 million, and the BC government have committed around $48 million. It is already scheduled for an April Development Permit Board meeting.
